3 Alternatives to Setting Goals for 2020


If you're like me, you love a good goal or two. Especially when the new year rolls around. Getting clarity around a goal/dream is the first step towards making something extraordinary happen.


But sometimes, when we become too goal driven, we end up disappointed when things don't work out as we planned. Furthermore, we fail to receive the beautiful gifts that ARE coming our way because we're so caught up in how things didn't work out how we planned.


If managed incorrectly, goals can become just more expectations. And our expectations cause us suffering.


Take a look at these 3 Alternatives to Goals if you're feeling like you could use a break from goal-oriented thinking...



1. LESSONS TO CARRY FORWARD --


Think back through 2019 and see if you can boil down your most important lessons learned. Think about categories including:

  • Health

  • Relationships

  • Career/Mission

  • Finances

  • Time

  • Spirit

  • Emotions/Meaning


Pick 3 at the most, and commit to living by these new understandings. My new lessons for the year are:

  1. The two things that are always worth spending money on in my world are HELP (house cleaning, help with my biz) and SELF-GROWTH (courses, books, experiences). No more hesitating when thinking about these two things.

  2. Being social with friends at night during the week no longer serves me. It leaves me feeling exhausted and guilty for leaving my family.

2. ONE LITTLE WORD --


I've blogged about this practice before and we do it at my AWAKEN Retreat. It's one of my fav's.


Instead of a goal, think of one word that you'd like to get curious about for the next 12 months. It's a word that you want to weave into all aspects of your life.


Think of a word that elicits positivity and a sense of "yes, this is me," and "I want to see more of this in my daily doings."


If it feels good, you know it's right.


Remember this word when you're feeling low, and see how just a simple word can change the very focus of your life.



3. GET YOUR VISION ON--


Sit comfortably in your chair, or lie in your bed at night and close your eyes. Allow yourself to drop into an alpha state, and begin to imagine yourself a year from now...


What will you be doing and with whom? Why will you be smiling, and what will you be proud of? What will you be wearing and saying? Who will you be helping? And most importantly how will this make you feel?


Our subconscious speaks in VISIONS and EMOTION. So connect to your subconscious. Using the power of your emotion, plant your already achieved vision there. Feel the feelings of how great it will be.


And watch as it comes together without you having said a word to anyone.
